Banalkars urge Guv to direct State to construct bypass on stilt

PANJIM:  The people of Benaulim along with the MLA Venzy Viegas met the Governor of Goa P S Sreedharan Pillai and urged him to direct the State government to construct the western bypass on stilts and not by land filling which they pointed out pose a dire threat to life and property.

The delegation also submitted a memorandum that reads, “Our village is bounded on the East by the only River in the village called River Sal.  The Arabian Sea marks its Western boundary.  The flood waters on the Western side get released into the Arabian Sea through this drainage system and into the River Sal on the Eastern side.  The excess flood water gets collected in catchment areas which are located all along the banks of River Sal and Arabian Sea. Thus the inhabitants were being spared of the monsoon fury, thanks to the time tested natural drainage system.”
