MAPUSA: Bardez taluka will have restricted water supply till Saturday since the restoration work of main pipeline of 700mm, which was damaged on Wednesday early morning, is still under repair.
On Wednesday early the main pipeline providing water burst and the road caved in at Madel Thivim.
Meanwhile, even as the road restoration work was on going, on late Wednesday evening, the Junior Engineer of PWD Tanay Kandolkar, who was supervising the work sustained injuries after an auto-rickshaw hit him while overtaking another vehicle, unaware that the spot is barricaded and work is in progress. Kandolkar sustained head injuries.
Officials said that although the pipeline is more than 40-years-old, however it is in good condition. But due to the continuous moment of vehicles, the road caved in, while the pipeline developed a crack.
It is suspected that high air pressure in pipeline caused it to burst. Immediately, the PWD and Mapusa police were informed about the same, who barricaded the area to avoid any accident.
Since it was then main pipeline, water supply to Siolim, Anjuna, Thivim, Mapusa, Aldona and some part of Calangute and Saligao was affected.
Similar incident at occurred last year in July, where the service road was damaged after a pipeline burst at Guirim.
