MARGAO: The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs have denied claims that they had not supplied rations to the Fair Price Shop in Benaulim.
“We are carrying out further investigations into the matter,” said an official from the department.
Benaulim locals had complained orally that they have not received their rations for the last two months. When they confronted the owner of the Fair Price Shop about his poor stock situation, he tried to shift the blame elsewhere, claiming that the shop did not receive supplies. Following this, officials from the department inspected the shop and checked their records.
“We inspected the Fair Price shop and though it was claimed that the Civil Supplies Department had not issued the quota, we have issued the entire rations as per our information. Currently 23,700 kg of rice and 6,600 kg of wheat is short. We have learnt that many people have not received their rations for the last two months. If there was an official complaint, we would have been able to act sooner,” said an official of the department.
The locals have demanded that it be mentioned in their respective ration cards that they were not given rations in the past as well. They pointed out that they are being denied their rightful share of rations, and urged the authorities to resolve the issue immediately.
