PANJIM: The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Goa Police arrested a 31-yr-old civil engineer from  Borim, Ponda, on the charge of cultivating ganja and MDMA valued at Rs 8.50 lakh.

"The ANC busted a Hydroponic Cannabis Plantation and arrested Yuvraj Borkar for cultivating high quality hydroponic weed. Borkar was also found in possession of 150 gms of hydroponic weed, 1 kg of ganja and 15 gms of MDMA  valued at Rs 8.50 lakh," said police.

Police investigations have also revealed that the accused used to import seeds from an international website and cultivate hydroponic cannabis in the basement of his residence at Borim, Ponda. Certain modified LED lights have also been recovered which were being used to assist in the growing process of the cannabis.

Police also stated that the accused used to market his contraband in North Goa where the contraband has a fertile market especially among the youth. The scooter of the accused, a mobile phone and 3LED grow lights and voltage converters were seized by the police.

An offence under section 20(b)(ii)(B) and 22(C) of NDPS Act has been registered and further investigation is underway, police said.

  The raiding team included LPSI Priyanka Garodi along with staff of ANC PS Panaji under the guidance of PI Sajith Pillai, DySP Nerlon Albuquerque and overall supervision of SP,  Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
