Kavlekar, Sr Rane not happy with Governor’s speech

PORVORIM: Leader of the Opposition and Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar has expressed dissatisfaction that Goa Governor Mridula Sinha’s address in the Legislative Assembly failed to highlight crucial issues related to the state.

Senior Congress MLA Pratapsingh Rane also expressed his discontent over Mridula Sinha’s address for failing to highlight the crucial issue of mining.

“The law and order situation has not remained under control and there has been violation of the same and there is an increase in the crime rate and vandalism which is not detected and accounted for”, said Kavlekar in his letter to the Secretary (Legislature) suggesting certain amendments to the motion of thanks to Governor’s address.

“The Governor avoided mentioning about mining. It is very important in my area (constituency) as there are many truck owners, and allied businesses operating because of mining. At least 5-10 families are surviving behind each truck,” Senior Rane said. The issue, he said, will be raised in the Calling Attention Motion on Wednesday. 

Kavlekar said “There was no mention about controlling the rising prices of essential commodities and bringing down the overall inflation”.

The Opposition leader is letter also pointed out to delete six rivers of Goa from the list of the rivers mentioned in National Waterways Act 2016 while also stating that to come up with a casino policy and to reduce coal pollution in Vasco city along with surrounding areas.

“There should be a master plan for traffic management and to have supply of drinking water 24x7. Also the government should provide time bound services in various departments and to plug the loopholes which exist in convicting those involved in drug trade” he suggested

Meanwhile, the Congress MLA also said that the issue of unemployment in the state should be solved while also claiming that a lot of farmers have abandoned agricultural activities due to sudden reduction in subsides.

The former chief minister, Rane expressed apprehension that if there is no immediate relief, Poriem could witness series of theft cases like in Margao.
