PANJIM: The bye-elections to seven wards of village panchayats will be held on Saturday, March 25. The polling will be held from 8 am to 5 pm.
The bye-election will be held for ward V of Velguem village panchayat, ward VI of Ona-Maulinguem-Kudchirem panchayat, ward VI of Orlim panchayat, ward II of Kalay panchayat, ward IV of Balli-Adnem panchayat, ward VII of Barcem-Quedem panchayat and ward I of Rachol panchayat.
There are 19 candidates in the fray and straight fights are on cards in ward I of Rachol, ward II Kalay and ward VII Barcem-Quedem panchayat while, triangular battle will be seen in ward VI of Ona-Maulinguem-Kudchirem panchayat, ward V of Velguem panchayat and ward VI of Orlim panchayat. A quadrangular fight is in ward IV of Balli-Adnem panchayat.
The polling will be held by ballot. Adequate police force has been deployed t for smooth conduct of bye-elections.
The State government has declared March 25 as a paid holiday being the polling day to the employees/workers provided they are voters for the aforesaid bye-election.
Both the District Magistrates have imposed Section 144 in view of bye-poll in the respective panchayat wards while, all the bars have been asked to remain closed on March 24, 25 and on the counting day on March 27.
