CURCHOREM: Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) commenced the work of cleaning the main drainage near the Curchorem Railway Station by using a backhoe excavator, on Tuesday.

It may be recalled that on Saturday the portion of the road near the railway station was flooded following incessant rains causing severe hardships to the motorists, pedestrians and nearby shops and the issue was highlighted by Herald in its edition, on Saturday.

On Monday, Chairperson Balkrishna (Pinty) Hodarkar inspected the site along with the engineers and directed the concerned officials to get it cleaned immediately.

“The water coming from the upper side with pressure and blocks the sideways water at T-junction of the drainage resulting in overflows and flooding the road every time when it rains," informed Hodarkar adding besides cleaning the extension of existing drainage or construction of new parallel drainage would be the only solution for this problem which he will discuss with local MLA and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral.

Meanwhile, according to Hodarkar the council has taken a decision to renew the trade licence and issue the certificate on the same day of application after paying the necessary fees.

“Besides this decision SMS would be sent to all the lessees of the municipal shops reminding them to pay the rent and to all the owners to pay the house tax every year,” said Hodarkar and informed that the owners can also pay their house tax of up to five years in advance if they want to do so.
