PANJIM: Alleging that the ruling Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) taking unilateral decisions without taking councillors into confidence, senior councillor Surendra Furtado has said that he will write to the Vigilance Department and the Goa Lokayukta, for extending pay parking contract without seeking the Corporation's approval.

Reacting to CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate’s statement that decisions to extend pay parking and sopo and other items was taken in the interest of the CCP because time consuming would have lost Rs 15 lakhs, Furtado alleged that the CCP Mayor, Commissioner and the Accounts Taxation Officer (ATO)were taking suo moto decisions.

He said that the trio recently suo moto extended the contract of the pay parking by six months and the Panjim market sopo collection tender, both without bringing it to the Corporation meetings.

“If the Mayor, Commissioner and the ATO are taking suo moto decisions then why bring CCP budget and other items to the Corporation meetings. All the three can take suo moto decisionsand the affairs of the Corporation. I want to ask the Chief Minister and the Urban Development Minister if the State government runs without bringing it before the Legislative Assembly,” said Furtado.

The senior councillor charged that the Mayor on Friday lied to the citizens of Panjim that he had taken post facto decisions. If so then why the decision was not brought before the Corporation for the last two meetings?,Furtado asked, stating that the citizens of Panjim of Panjim will come to know who is right and who is wrong when the whole thing will come out once for all.
