CCP denies permission for fair in Panjim due to PM’s programme

PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has decided not to permit fair in the capital city from December 8, in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme scheduled at Campal on December 11. 

Every year the CCP allows four-day fair from December 8, on the occasion of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception feast. This year also the CCP wanted to permit the fair on the sidelines of the feast but later decided not to allow it in view of Modi’s visit to Goa to attend the concluding of the 9th World Ayurveda Congress at Campal and also inauguration of the Mopa international airport on December 11.  

When contacted, CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate said that the Corporation may not allow fair on December 8 in view of the Prime Minister’s programme at Campal and there could be security reasons and traffic problems due to diversion of traffic. He said that picture would be clear after the visit of the Special Protection Group (SPG) team.  

Meanwhile, the Goa government has issued a notice that no leave of any kind will be sanctioned to or by Secretaries to the Government, head of departments and other senior officials except in emergencies, if approved by the Chief Minister, in view of the visit of the Prime Minister.
