PANJIM: The elections to the post of Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor and the Deputy Mayor will be held on Thursday, March 30.

Rohit Monserrate, who is the current Mayor confirmed to O Heraldo that he will be nominated again for the post for the third consecutive year.

When asked if the Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Naik will be re-nominated or a new face will be fielded from Revenue Minister Atanasio `Babush’ Monserrate supported panel, Rohit said, “Let’s see, so far nobody has come forward and expressed to me that they are interested. Once the process of filing nominations starts you will come to know.”

As per the CCP Act, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor are to be elected every year. In the elections held in March 2021, the panel supported by Minister Monserrate had swept the elections by winning 25 wards in the 30-Member Corporation.

Soon after the declaration of election results, Rohit and councillor Vasant Aghshikar were unanimously elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively. But in the next year, Aghshikar backed out, and Sanjeev Naik was elected as Deputy Mayor.
