CCP procures machines to clean choked sewage pipelines

PANJIM: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) recently procured two special purpose sewer rodding machines (SRM) costing Rs 9.7 lakh for the purpose of cleaning the chokes that occur in the sewage pipelines.

Junior Engineer (Automobile), CCP Leejan D’Souza said, “With the choked pipelines, the normal flow of sewage gets interrupted leading to the overflow of reservoir. The CCP therefore has procured two SRMs to avoid the over-spilling of sewage.”

He further informed that the machines will be handed over to the PWD for operations.

Briefing about the salient features of the machine, D’Souza informed that the machine is manufactured by Kota Environ Private Limited and has total capacity of 5 Horse Power (powered by diesel engine) and is capable of cleaning upto 440 ft of sewage line at a time.

“Although the machine is fully automatic, the machine requires one operator to control the switches and, another to command the machine and to push the extension into the manhole to clean the choked sewage line,” he said.
