PORVORIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday announced that 100 per cent of beneficiaries will be fully vaccinated against Coronavirus before the State goes for elections, which are due in February 2022.

Addressing the last day of the session, which is also, apparently, the last sitting of the current Legislative Assembly, Sawant, remembering his mentor and former Goa Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar, thanked the treasury bench as well as the opposition for all the support.  He also thanked his constituency – Sanquelim people for electing him twice—2012 and 2017.

He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Central Ministers for all the funding to ensure smooth functioning of the government, infrastructural and human development.

“Today I remember, Manohar Bhai…who made me and MLA…Speaker and the Chief Minister…I got all the support from the treasury benches as well as from opposition…I thank even those who criticized me and my government inside the House and outside …I took it in a constructive way and tried to rectify the mistakes…I made sure that my decisions are in the interest of the people and the State,” the Chief Minister said.

“Ever since I took over the charge, I had faced several problems and challenges in form of COVID-19 pandemic, cyclone, flooding….however, the State administration right from the Chief Secretary to the sweeper, helped me to fight and overcome it,” he said.

“Medical officers, police, district administration, panch, sarpanches…everyone job was commendable…it was only because of them we were able to fight COVID-19 and achieve 100 percent vaccination of the first dose,” Sawant added.

“Now, before going for elections, our target is to ensure that all the beneficiaries are vaccinated with both the doses of vaccine…let us make Goa corona free at the earliest,” the Chief Minister said appealing to the opposition benches to extend support.

Speaking further, Sawant said that despite a drop in revenue due to pandemic, his government ensures that infrastructure and human development continue.

He shared that Swayampurna Goem initiative is appreciated even by the PM.
