MAPUSA: Minister of Waste Management, Science and Technology, Port and Rural Development Michael Lobo on Saturday stated that the Chief Minister should take the call with regards to mining activity.

“This is a testing time for the people of Goa and as elected representatives we are the custodians. Other than medical stores, essentials and take away, everything else should remain close,” Lobo said.

“The panchayats should take initiative where two village panchayats can come together and create a combine vaccination centre by taking the different clubs into confidence, said Lobo, while addressing the media persons during an inaugural function of vaccination centre at St Joseph’s High School, Tivaivaddo-Calangute, for people above 45 years and confirmed online appointments of 18-44 years from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 2 pm to 4 pm.

“We don't know how long it will take to get the required slots. The village panchayats should create permanent centres so that the vaccination drive can continue. They can convert the community hall, temple hall or the government schools to set up such facility,” he said.

“People should not visit primary health centre or community health centre because here people visit for check-up and COVID testing. Healthy people visit the PHC and CHC, where infected people are present. This may lead to spread of infection,” claimed Lobo.

On the patients dying at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim due to oxygen supply between 2 am and 6 am, Lobo stated that a team of four officers, they can be engineers of different department, should be deployed in the night to check and responsible to replace the empty oxygen cylinders directly.

Lobo also informed that taking into consideration the monsoon season, the centre presently set up at Candolim football ground will be shifted to Nandan Kudchadkar Residence, which will be used as vaccination centre for 18 years and above and 45 above people of Candolim and certain areas of other villages such as Saligao, Nerul, Reis Magos and others.

“Screen displaying preventive measures for COVID-19 symptomatic and measures to avoid getting infected will be also shown to the people visiting the centre,” he added.
