CM says government monitoring school admission process

To ensure students with disabilities are not denied admissions

BICHOLIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the State government is monitoring the school admission process to ensure that children with disabilities are not denied admissions.

He was speaking during distribution of spectacles to school students under the "Vision For All - #SwayampurnaGoa" initiative organised by the State government in collaboration with the Prasad Netralaya Group and SLR Foundation at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali, on Monday.

Speaking further, Sawant said that his government has made it mandatory for schools to give admission to children with disability in nearby schools. “Admission cannot be avoided,” said adding that the Secretary (Education) Prasad Lolayekar and the Director of Shailesh Zingde are monitoring the admission process.

Under the ‘Vision For All - #SwayampurnaGoa’, eyes of 2.5 lakh students from schools across the State were tested in first phase by training teachers in basic testing. Also 33,000 children who were identified through this process were thoroughly tested for eye defects and as many as 3,500 of them will be provided spectacles under the initiative. Nine students had major eye issues and five were expected to undergo surgery to correct the defects.
