PANJIM: The National Commission for Minority Affairs, Government of India, has sent a notice to the State Chief Secretary over the crematoriums for Hindus and cemetery for Muslim and Christians.

The letter by Under Secretary to Govt of India A Sengupta says, “I am directed to refer to this commission that even after a lapse of considerable time no reply has been received in the matter.”

The chief secretary has been asked to file a report latest by November 7 and thereafter the commission would be forced to take action as per the NCM Act.

The petitioner Azad Jamatul Muslimmeen Welfare Trust had stated that there was no facility to bury the dead in many panchayats of Goa.

Based on the petition, the Commission had earlier asked the State to file a report on the issue.
