CURCHOREM: PWD Minister and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral has predicted that there will be water scarcity all over the world in the next 20 to 30 years and therefore it is the need of the hour to preserve and protect the natural water bodies now for future generations.

Speaking after commencing the desilting the Xeldem Lake in the Curchorem constituency, Cabral assured to develop and beautifying of the Assolda and Xeldem lakes along with the Nanda lake at Ghotmorod.

“Even after our being an agricultural nation, we are importing oil from abroad and therefore the government has decided to promote agricultural activities by giving various incentives to farmers to use and re-cultivate their barren lands which are kept unused for various reasons,” said Cabral.

Expressing happiness for getting International Ramsar site recognition for Nanda Lake, Cabral said that it is a proud moment as it would help in the conservation and management of wetlands and proper use of the resources.

“Nanda Lake got the recognition because it fulfilled all its criteria and in a similar way, we will work for Xeldem Lake too as it is necessary to protect and beautify this lake as many migratory birds are coming here and also senior citizens are using this site for relaxation,” Cabral stated.
