PANJIM: Campaigning for two Lok Sabha seats in the State - going to polls in the third phase on Tuesday, May 7, came to an end on Sunday evening.

Both the North Goa Parliamentary constituency and the South Goa Parliamentary constituency will witness key fight between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the INDIA Bloc backed Congress candidates even as there are eight candidates each in the fray in both the constituencies.

Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik who is seeking his sixth straight term is competing against former Union Minister Ramakant Khalap in North Goa in the North Goa constituency while, in South Goa both the national parties have fielded new faces. The BJP which is trying to wrest South Goa seat has fielded businesswoman Pallavi Dempo while the Congress has nominated Capt Viriato Fernandes, a retired Naval officer. 

A total of 11,79,644 electorate including 5,80,577 voters in North Goa and 5,98,767 voters in South Goa and 300 service voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in 1,725 polling stations.

In both the constituencies female voters outnumber male voters. In North Goa, 2,99,088 are female voters and 2,81,486 are male voters. Similarly, South Goa constituency has 3,08,627 female voters and 2,90,131 male voters. Altogether there are 6,07,715 female voters and 5,71,617 male voters across both constituencies. There are 12 registered transgenders.
