PONDA: With less than a week left for the village panchayat elections scheduled on August 10, candidates have hit the roads spending most of the time available to them campaigning door-to-door. 

The candidates are promising to take up the ward development work such as the construction of gutters, and access roads to win the voters. While some prefer to campaign with large supporters, some prefer to visit with two to three supporters and are distributing leaflets. The voters are taking a cautious approach and even as they extend a warm welcome to all candidates.

In all, 601 candidates are contesting from 19 Panchayats of Ponda Taluka while Sanjivani Talekar from ladies reserve ward number 1 of Bethki Khandola Panchayat has been already elected unopposed. 

The highest number of nominations, 50, are filed from 11 members Usgao-Ganjem Panchayat followed by 49 from Curti-Khandepar which is also 11 member Panchayat while the lowest nominations of 15 are filed by five-member Volvoi Panchayat followed by 16 from Wadi-Talavalim Panchayat.
