MAPUSA: Candolim SC managed to scrape past Xetrapal Sports Club 2-1 to advance ahead into the Candolim Panchayat Cup match played at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, on Thursday.
In the 7th minute of play, Candolim SC goalkeeper fisted away a power-packed strike from Xetrapal SC’s striker Ramnath Dhabolkar.
At the other end in the 18th minute, Candolim SC’s Saish Bagkar missed an open sitter.
Four minutes later, Xetrapal SC’s keeper brought a superlative save to deny Anuj Kutikar from scoring.
Again in the 36th minute of play, Candolim SC’s keeper Chandan Redkar collected Chadrakant Naik, goal bound strike.
Finally in the 40th minute of play, Chaitanya Dhabolkar dribbled past a host of Xetrapal SC defenders and placed the ball into the far corner of the goal,1-0.
Pepped up by the goal, Candolim SC’s Rajat Chopdekar made it 2-0, by scoring from inside the penalty box. However, in the very next minute, Xetrapal SC managed to reduce the margin through Vipul Pednekar’s neat placement, 2-1.
Vipul Pednekar of Xetrapal SC received the man-of-the-match award.
