MARGAO: Residents and activists from Cansaulim have warned the authorities that they would face the flak of villagers if they don’t revoke the construction licence for a hotel project presently underway.

The warning has been issued to the Town and Country Planning department, the State government and Cavellosim panchayat alleging that they have acted in favour of the project proponent.

Adv Russo Rodrigues, speaking on behalf of the villagers, said that the hotel project proposed in Arrossim by one Competent Automobiles is proposed on site which is in eco-sensitive zone and has ponds and water retention areas.

“The report prepared by a government agency says that if the project is completed the entire village will be flooded. Ponds will be destroyed and filling low lying areas will be happening,” Adv Russo said.

“Other issue is of access as a survey of the PWD states that there is no proper mandatory access for the project, which was approved with the connivance of TCP with the builder,” he said.

“TCP has granted in permissions to the project. Our message to the project proponent and the government is don’t start the project and if done, we will start a big agitation in the village,” warned Olencio Simoes.

The villagers have also demanded revocation of the technical clearance given to the project. One of the villager said that all the panchas and the sarpanch are favouring the project.
