MARGAO: Carmona villagers have formed a "flying squad" to tackle the garbage menace to keep the village clean.
The continuous littering and dumping of garbage on a daily basis by the roadside especially at the border with Cavelossim, the villagers at a public meeting decided to form a "flying squad" comprising of locals to tackle garbage dumping on the roadside. From Jangod to Gavona and other areas will be monitored by the squad members, who will visit and inspect garbage dumped and check for evidence. The violators will be heavily fined.
If any tenant refuses to pay the fine then the owner will be fined instead. The squad will also check for black spots or any migrants violating the rules with regards to garbage management.
"Carmona VP collects around 1,200 kg of garbage every week, which consists of dry waste with sorting being carried out at a temporary site. The village is suffering as the tenants and migrants staying in the village and in neighbouring Cavelossim are mostly responsible for garbage dumping on the roads," informed Carmona sarpanch Allwyn George.
"We will also be putting up CCTV cameras along the roads, which should stop the dumping," he added.
