MARGAO: Carmona villagers led by the Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge on Wednesday submitted their Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) to the Block Development Officer at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex.

“Although we were the last to submit the GPDP, it gives me great pride to acknowledge the fact that we prepared it in the shortest time,” Jorge said after handing over the copy.

Carmona GPDP focuses primarily on development of the village said the Village Development Committee chairman Sucoro Miranda and said that touching every section of the villagers was the main aim of the plan.

“The plan envisages setting up a senior citizens club under UMID, setting up self help groups for women and also verification of all migrants living in Carmona,” Miranda said adding that the two chapels at Zalor and Xiro will also be beautified.

The area around the church will be beautified with the first task being to cover the drains by its side. Besides, the GPDP proposes to strengthen the River Sal embankments in the village that have deteriorated due to lack of maintenance.

Given the fact that Carmona has a rural dispensary that caters to the needs of the neighbouring villages too, the GPDP proposes to have a 10-bedded hospital to keep patients for observation and in case of emergency and the hospital is proposed to be constructed in the panchayat property at Olwado.
