Cases rise again, recovery rate now at nearly 61%

PANJIM: After a day’s respite with 52 cases on Monday, the number of COVID-19 positive persons rose on Tuesday with the State reporting 90 new cases, while the recovery rate continued to be high at 95 cases.

There are so far eight deaths in the State, including that of former Health Minister Dr Suresh Amonkar on Monday.


As per the health bulletin, there are 1,903 confirmed cases and 1,156 recoveries. There are currently 739 active cases. The recovery rate of the COVID-19 cases is nearly 61 per cent.

Another interesting development came from Mapusa wherein a person tested positive sending the entire locality in a tizzy. Locals were seen lining up for mass testing arranged by the Health Department.

The bad news of the day is that two doctors attached to the ESI hospital, which is designated the COVID hospital, and posted in the ICU, tested positive for the virus.

The Goa Medical College, in a statement said that with the rapid rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, GMC has taken necessary measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their doctors, patients and staff. 

“With the provision of protective gear, dissemination of important information and social distancing guidelines in place, we have been successfully tackling the situation to the best of our abilities,” the GMC statement said.
