CAVELOSSIM: The Cavelossim gram sabha on Sunday opposed the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) claiming several discrepancies in the plan.
Former sarpanch Edwin Barretto said, “Cavelossim villagers attending the gram sabha questioned why the State government had asked them to prepare the CZMP if the suggestions made by the locals were not incorporated in the plan.” Another villager Nevidade D’Costa said, “The resolutions were passed demanding that the CZMP be scrapped as the villagers opposed the Blue Flag notification and the proposed tourism centre as they had not been informed by the government.”
There was a hue and cry with regards to the toilets constructed near a starred resort within the High Tide Line (HTL) allegedly flouting the CRZ (Coastal Regulation Zone) norms in the coastal village as a setback has to be maintained. The gram sabha questioned the panchayat who claimed it to be a temporary structure. All seven panchas were present for the gram sabha. However, despite several attempts, sarpanch Denis Dias was not available for comments.
