MARGAO: The Cavelossim village panchayat took part in the virtual ‘Mukt Panchayat initiative’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a World TB Day event on March 24 at Varanasi.
“The programme was very informative. More than 40 countries attended the event and the Prime Minister announced a target, saying that India will be TB-free by 2025, even if the global deadline is 2030,” said Sarpanch Dixon Vaz. “Initiatives to eradicate tuberculosis were discussed and the Prime Minister underlined the high use of trace, test, track, treat and technology in the fight against the disease. He also launched several initiatives, including TB-free panchayats, pan-India rollout of a shorter TB Preventive Treatment (TPT) and a family-centric care model for tuberculosis,” Vaz added.
