PANJIM: The Congress party on Thursday accused Narendra Modi-led government of using the investigating agencies like Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax as a “tool to silence opposition”.

The party has demanded inquiry by CBI into the company owned by BJP National President Amit Shah’s son, Jay, which has shown a whopping profit in 2015-16, after going through financial losses all this while.

Addressing media persons, All India Congress Committee (AICC) national spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi charged that investigating agencies are used to target opposition and to suppress their voices. “It is extremely unfortunate that since Modi government has taken over, investigating agencies like CBI, ED, IT are used as tools to silence opposition,” she said.

Chaturvedi was in Goa to address media on the ongoing controversy surrounding Amit Shah’s son business.

“I am going to discuss Jay Amit Shah model of development which within the three years of Modi’s government has managed to give a company run by Shah son Jay, a 16 lakh per cent rise in his income. I wonder if prime minister can explain to us this model of getting Rs 15 crore loan for our businesses,” she said.

AICC leader said that CBI need to function independently, this is one important case that it needs to take immediately and investigate.

She alleged that the entire cabinet and rank and file of the Modi-led government are trying to protect Jay Shah, who is just an individual businessman.

She also pointed out that Additional solicitor general Tushar Mehta who is supposed to defend Union of India is defending Jay Shah.
