PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that families of 75 martyrs from Goa and other parts of India, who had participated in ‘Satyagraha’ to liberate Goa, will be given a ‘Certificate of Honour’ on Independence Day.

Addressing media persons, Sawant said that of the 75 families, 28 are from outside Goa.

He said that four families have already agreed to come to Goa on Independence Day, wherein they will be honoured during the State-level function.

Meanwhile, Goa will also observe the first-ever Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14. The event will be commemorated with silent marches in Panjim and Mormugao. The government has also planned an exhibition on Partition at two locations -- Mapusa bus stand and Panjim bus stand.

Sawant said, “National flag will be hoisted at Aguada jail museum on August 11 and the freedom fighters would be felicitated.”

The government will also organise Tiranga Yatra in North and South Goa respectively on August 13. While in North Goa it will be from Old Secretariat to Azad Maidan, in South it will be from Margao municipality to Lohia Maidan.
