PONDA: Goa Dairy AGM scheduled on Sunday at Sahakar Bhavan Hall Curti was postponed following chaotic situation for around an hour leading to law and order problem.

Chairman Durgesh Shirodkar expressed unhappiness over the chaos by few farmers forcing him to postpone the meeting.

The few former directors or members (chairmen of milk supplying societies to Goa Dairy) opposing the AGM claimed RCS has not given its approval to hold the AGM. The meeting was postponed by the chairman on this technical ground. This is the second time the meeting was postponed. Earlier the meeting scheduled on December 27, 2020 was postponed by Dairy Administration.

The postponed meeting will now be held only when RCS fixes a date, he said.

“Goa Dairy had already informed the RCS about the AGM and accordingly the meeting was called today,” Shirodkar added.

Goa Dairy AGM has 176 Dairy Societies chairmen and members. Hundred of the 116 members present for the meeting wanted it to continue. However, 16 members questioned the legality of meeting. As chaos began the police personnel rushed into the hall to control the situation.

“Though we could continue the meeting taking support of police, we did not prefer police action against those members as they are our farmers. I even called for show of hands whether to continue the meeting or not but again these few farmers objected. Expecting law order situation, I postponed the meeting to avoid chaos and controversy,” Shirodkar added.

Vikas Prabu, Chairman of Milk Society at Bethora, said, "the RCS and Government is responsible for the chaos. The postponement of meeting has wasted precious time of members and we have demanded that the postponed meeting be held on January 31".

Anup Desai from Priol said, "even though there was no RCS consent the meeting was possible with request to farmers, however the chairman's ego became a hurdle and meeting was postponed".

The report, of the financial year April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 was on agenda, besides other issues.

Former chairman of Goa Dairy, Rajesh Faldesai said Goa Dairy suffered Rs 6.41 crore loss during that period and said auditors appointed by last AGM are changed. He also expressed unhappiness over police presence at the AGM.
