PORVORIM: Porvorim Police on Thursday filed a 506-page charge sheet before the JMFC Mapusa against seven accused along with statement of 71 witnesses in Vilas Methar murder case.
The charge sheet has been filed under murder and criminal conspiracy section against Altaf Yaragatti, Shafiq Shaikh, Pavan Badigeri, Vishwajeet Dabholkar, Santosh Pillai, Iqbal Nanapuri and Shailendra Shetty. It may be recalled that RTI activist Vilas Methar, a resident of Porvorim was intercepted by two of the accused, was doused with petrol and set ablaze on October 14, at Torda, Porvorim. Methar succumbed to burn injuries at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim the next day.
The two accused namely Altaf Yaragatti and Shafiq Shaikh, builders by profession, had conspired to kill Methar and had hired Vishwajeet Dabholkar and Pavan Badigeri, both residents of Mapusa for the job.
