Cheat caught in Goa duped investors of   Rs 100 crore

PANJIM:  In a startling revelation it has come to light that the accused wanted by the Kolkata Police and arrested by the Old Goa Police is said to have duped investors across four States and three metropolitan cities to the tune of almost Rs 100 crore.

The accused after cheating several depositors in four States was hiding in the State. In the present case reported at Golabari Police Station (Howrah, Kolkata), the police walked in at the Old Goa Police Station last week searching for the accused Grenville Eric Henry Vaz, (370 from Mumbai.

 Vaz is the sole proprietor of firm by name ‘Gold Hill’. 

Under the garb of the investing in trading of coal and forex trading, Vaz lured gullible investors and when got entrusted with the funds, misappropriated the same and cheated the depositors for more than Rs seven crore at Howrah, Kolkata.

Old Goa Police after two days search in its jurisdiction successfully apprehended Vaz and handed him over to the Golabari Police Station on Sunday. On digging deep into his criminal antecedents, the police realised that the accused was also wanted in two other offences and other crimes registered at Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and other places. The police have been informed that he is allegedly involved in defrauding investors for nearly Rs 100 crore.

An offence stands registered against him at the Sigra Police Station in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh which is probed by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for cheating and under Sections 3 and 4 of Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors in Financial Establishment Act 1999.
