PANJIM: Elections for the post of chairperson and vice chairperson for five municipal councils will be held on Monday.
The post of chairperson of Mapusa, Quepem and Sanguem municipal councils has been reserved for women councillors, while the chairpersons’ posts for Mormugao and Margao are not reserved and open for all interested councillors to contest.
According to information given by Municipal Administration Director Gurudas Pilarnekar, a special meeting of Mormugao, Margao, Mapusa, Quepem and Sanguem municipal councils has been convened at 11 am on Monday, to elect chairperson and vice chairperson.
Pilarnekar said the offices of these five municipal councils will remain open on Sunday from 9.30 am to 1 pm, to allow candidates to file their nomination papers for the posts.
The polling for the five municipal councils was held on April 23.
