MARGAO: In a remarkable display of solidarity and compassion, the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) joined hands with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of Fr Agnel College of Arts and Commerce, Pilar – Goa, to undertake a transformative mission - the renovation of huts for the nomadic Katkhari tribal families residing at Virnoda, Pernem. The event, held on May 3, marked a signiaficant milestone in ongoing efforts to uplift the living standards of marginalized communities in Goa.
Under tahe guidance of Prof Anthony D’Souza, a dedicated team of 30 NCC cadets converged at Virnoda and did the renovation of 20 huts, aiming to provide safer and more dignified shelter for the tribal families.
For over a year, the Goa SCPCR has been steadfast in its commitment to championing the cause of children from marginalized backgrounds, particularly the Katkhari tribal community across Virnoda and Nirankal. Through a series of targeted interventions spanning healthcare, nutrition, hygiene, and education, the commission has strived to create a nurturing environment conducive to the holistic development of children.
The success of this endeavour was made possible through the generous support extended by the ‘Hands of Hope Foundation’, which provided essential tarpaulin sheats for the renovation process. Furthermore, the logistiacal arrangements for the team were facilitated by the invaluable assistance of the ‘Human Touch Foundation’, ensuring the seamless execution of the activity.
