PANJIM: Nationalist Congress Party’s Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao has extended his unconditional support to the Congress and asserted that he would stand by the party.

Speaking to Herald, Churchill said, “I have submitted the letter of support to the Congress and I am with them. I will support them and there are no demands or hidden agenda.”

Churchill stood against the motion in Assembly on Wednesday when Dr Pramod Sawant sought the floor test to prove his majority, taking the Opposition numbers to 15 with Congress having 14 MLAs in the House.

Responding to a question on his support to late Manohar Parrikar-led government, he said, “I supported Parrikar because he was a different man. He was intelligent and I knew he would be able to lead the State but now it is not the case. I had supported Parrikar externally and did not join him. This government will not last for long.”

Churchill had supported the Parrikar-led government during the floor test in 2017, when the Congress had condemned the Governor for allowing a minority party (BJP) to form a coalition government.

Meanwhile, responding to a question on the South Goa Lok Sabha candidate, Churchill expressed confidence that his daughter Valanka would be given the ticket to contest the polls.

When questioned whether he would still be on the side of the Congress if Valanka is denied the ticket, he said, “My daughter has also applied; and I am sure she will get the ticket. However, if she is not given the ticket, then also there is no question of me supporting someone else. I will stand by the Congress candidate.”
