Transport woes of South Goa patients

CITIZEN BHALCHANDRA V S PRIOLKAR via email

The District Hospital of South Goa has greatly reduced the burden on GMC and made available medical facilities to one and all in distant places of South, who were finding it difficult to go all the way to Bambolim.

This is a good step by the government to benefit all patients including seniors needing ailment.

Those from near and far away places like  Sanguem, Canacona etc  can conveniently reach Margao KTC but have to suffer hardship just to reach hospital hardly two kilometers away. There are no regular city buses on this route and long distance buses do not entertain them. The rickshaws charge exorbitantly. The government is only making drama by insisting on installing meters but has no political will to enforce the same. Eventually patients visiting hospitals have to either shell out money or walk the distance to the hospital and back. It is pathetic to see children, seniors and others walking in the hot sun.

It is the need of hour to introduce Kadamba shuttle service on chargeable basis from Hospital to the Old Bus stand.  This will be a great relief to all patients. It is hoped concerned authorities will act or at least our Health Minister will take prompt cognizance of the issue to alleviate the sufferings of the patients and his initiative will be long remembered.
