Are authorities testing patience of customers at Chinchinim Post Office?

Are authorities testing patience of customers at Chinchinim Post Office?

Citizen Nelson Lopes Chinchinim

The postal authorities at the Chinchinim Post Office are playing arrogant, care two hoots to the needs of customers of inconvenience and waiting.

The compliment of three staff is now reduced to two. Has the load increased or decreased for such an economic measure? A post office with over Rs 80-plus crore in deposits cannot efficiently service the customers without inordinate delays, forced to stand in sun and rain. After protests and intervention by local organisations and elected representatives spread over 10 years, the second clerk was sanctioned with great fanfare.

It is disgusting and disappointing that as before he is like a spare wheel, sent everywhere on deputation as a substitute for those on leave.

This does not fulfil the need of expeditious services with just a single, harassed postmaster doubling up as Jack of all trades.

If the authorities cannot sanction a permanent staff here then close the facilities as an unviable unit. The much-needed sanctioned Aadhaar Card facility is lying dormant for lack of personnel. At least have the courage to withdraw it and allot it elsewhere to be functional. Why go on adding more facilities in post offices, when basic needs are not satisfactorily attended?

Are there no candidates in the State available to fill the vacancy to appoint a postman here, who is an engineering graduate from other State? It sounds strange.

Such underutilising of qualified person speaks of the sorry state of Postal authorities’ judgment on qualification of a postman. Are the authorities testing the patience of customers for a violent reaction to make them understand the gravity of lackadaisical services?
