Avoid wastage of power supply

Avoid wastage of power supply

Citizen Amit Laad Ponda

The Electricity Department has already notified on-off timings pertaining streetlights at different locations in the State. However, in practice, the timings are not being strictly adhered and a lot of energy gets wasted in the process.

In Ponda, such a situation has been noticed on various occasions. As on November 25, streetlight fixtures adjacent to Shree Maruti Temple and also near Sushrusha Hospital, both at Varkhandem were found in working condition at 8.30 am. Even in villages around Ponda, the situation is no different. At Talaulim we notice such instances on different occasions. Such a tendency results in wastage of the much precious energy from time to time. Of course, we cannot afford to waste power supply this way at any instance. The same needs to be utilised in the best possible manner.

The senior officials at the Electricity Department should take a serious note of this sensitive matter and see to it that persons entrusted with the work of switching off the streetlights at the appropriate time behave responsibly in their duties. Those found overlooking the prescribed timings should be taken to task without any discrimination. Of course, wastage of the much precious energy must be avoided at all costs. Utilising the existing power supply in a most efficient manner will ultimately reduce our dependence on the neighbouring States for acquiring additional energy.
