Bail granted to drunk truck driver accused of causing deaths of two passengers

MARGAO: The Additional District and Sessions Judge in Margao granted conditional bail to the driver of the mini truck, Rakesh Gore, involved in the tragic accident at Balli last month. The accident, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to 11 others, occurred when the mini-truck carrying cashew nuts crashed into a bridge and fell into the Balli rivulet.

The court ordered the release of the driver upon furnishing a bail bond of Rs 20,000 along with one local surety of the same amount. It was revealed that the driver was found to be intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The deceased individuals were identified as Hakku Sathaliya and Devraj Sathaliya. Most of the injured were rushed to the South Goa District Hospital, while others were sent to GMC, Bambolim. The mini-truck, loaded with cashew nuts, was reportedly en route from Mangaluru to Kolhapur when the accident occurred.
