PONDA: GOACAN Convenor Roland Martins expressed concern over the digging work of sewerage chambers near government building, at Tisk-Ponda, which is progressing in unsafe manner.

He said he will write to the South Goa Collector for safety of locals while the work is going on.

Convenor Martins said, “The work is undertaken by the government through its Sewage and Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDCGL), however, the authorities while sitting at Panjim office appears has not provided attention to its work progressing in Ponda in unsafe manner.”

“The work is progressing for six years and long pending, causing hardship to the people. The new huge sewage chambers are dug next to government administrative building, at Tisk-Ponda, however, while barricading the huge chamber, there are no proper signboards about nature of work and its details,” he added.

He also expressed concerned over the domestic LPG cylinders are being used for undertaking sewage work which is risky to passersby including school children and senior citizens as also to people visiting the government building for office work.

This huge chamber is dug between roadside and a nullah and locals fear that the nullah retaining wall may collapse as excavated mud is also dumped nearby.

Locals demanded that traffic police be posted there to solve traffic congestion.
