Cross drains can prevent flooding

Heavy rains continue to lash the State leading to water logging on the roads. Several areas have been inundated with water entering the houses and shops. 

Since most of the drainage in the city and towns were built during the Portuguese era, construction of buildings and blockage of drains by plastic waste could be the main reasons for the water logging during the monsoon. Cleaning of the drains may not be sufficient to stop the flooding. 

This inundation can be prevented by building cross-drains. The entire drainage system in the city and towns need to be looked into and as many underground cross drains should be built as deemed necessary by the authorities in order to prevent flooding.
