Cuncolim KTC Bus stand surroundings cry for attention!

Cuncolim KTC Bus stand surroundings cry for attention!

Citizen Joel Morais, Cuncolim

If you happen to enter the ‘seven-star’ KTC bus stand at Cuncolim, there is a top class pothole to greet you, not forgetting the dead water fountain to welcome the commuters. The fountain which, I suppose, never worked except on the day of the inauguration and for a few days later during the tenure of the then Cuncolim MLA, Joaquim Alemao.

There are quite a few streetlight pillars with no streetlights on them and most of them with lights on it hardly work which quite often puts the bus stand and the area around in total darkness during the dark hours causing a lot of inconvenience to the people.

The water drains passing through and around the bus stand are in very bad condition. Empty plastic bottles dumped in some of them lie there and looks like the drains have never been cleaned and cleared. The stagnant water in the drains turns out to be the home for mosquito breeding and we all are aware what these mosquitoes are capable of doing as far as typhoid, malaria and dengue are concerned.

The part of the bus stand is also being used as a dumping ground by the Cuncolim Electricity Department with its sub-office housed in the KTC premises.

Besides the bus stand, there exists a mini children park with hardly any takers in the recent time. The swings in park are broken and give a very ugly look to the park which was once used by the children in large numbers.

Finally the walking track around the village school playground at the neighbourhood of the KTC bus stand will have a new look shortly, said sources. Hope the concerned people will allow the contractor to work independently without claiming any commission. Some of the benches around the walking track are in very bad state and should be used with utmost caution.
