Govt must put road tax to proper use

Govt must put road tax to proper use

Every year the government collects road tax, but is the revenue generated used for the maintenance of roads? Every manifesto before Assembly elections promises good roads for transportation, but the governments never keeps up to their promise.

The picture is of a National Highway at Margao, opposite the Housing Board. Initially, there were deep craters similar to the ones on the “moon”. Then, there was a temporary solution of filling these craters with mud. With the shower of rain, these craters are filled with rain water, which becomes difficult for the motorist to fathom the depth. However, the fact should not be neglected that the common man pays their taxes sincerely on time and definitely deserve a much better road made of tar and concrete.

It is not just a pothole but an entire stretch of three to five metres that is filled with rain water. During the heavy flow of traffic, the drivers and riders find it difficult to commute on these roads. The authorities have best of sophisticated vehicles for transport facility. And so are unaware of the ordeal faced by common man while travelling regularly on the roads which have deep potholes.

I appeal to the concerned authority to look into the issue and make it a priority to ensure better roads at least now before the upcoming Assembly elections. And to make it definitely worth voting in the concerns favour.
