Reading a news report on oHeraldo of Thursday, June 22, 2017 captioned Cops First Appeal to pillion riders to wear helmet than advise.

First of all two-wheeler riders, especially the youth, hesitate to wear helmets risking their lives in rash and negligent manner not only on highways but even in cities and villages. They think it is an obstruction, feeling uneasy as they cannot turn their heads around easily not hearing the sound of horn or the vehicles coming from behind resulting minor accidents or maybe they ride for pleasure or show their might to ride as knight riders in racing for fun.

Besides there was another rule -- the burden of pillion rider to wear helmet but the Government itself withdrew it as it is not feasible and also for motorcycle pilots which will affect their daily bread earning business. 

The Director of R.T.O and Traffic Police in-charge had come cracking down all possible tactics to avoid tragedies and lastly even to impound the vehicles if not wearing a helmet which is a failure. 

The offenders pay fines easily which helps to grow government’s economy rather than saving lives. To this effect the RTO authorities and PI Traffic Cell are earnestly requested to consider this suggestion also making it compulsory to make good use of riding bicycles in cities/villages even on highways which will also keep them physically fit whenever required and making them travel by Government/ Private Transport giving concession and passes.

The authorities must continue organising training and inculcating habits by all means including this suggestion as a rule and include riding/driving as a subject at school level which will surely reduce 50% accidental deaths. It will equally lessen the tension on the traffic cops if this suggestion is approved. So let’s sing this song and have a joy bicycle ride and save our lives.
