Obey traffic rules, drive carefully

Citizen Luis Carlos Roncon, Santa Cruz

No doubt all are well aware that rash and negligent driving and no control on speed causes accidental tragedies, leading to death on the roads.

We have to be careful to fasten our seatbelts and wear helmets, keeping in mind the bad roads that are in need of constant repair.

Let us be cautious on the road and not talk on mobile phones and drive or ride carefully on the overcrowded roads.

We have seen how overtaking dangerously and driving without control on speed can be fatal.

It does not matter if you are in a hurry as traffic jams can be seen in every part of the state.

We do not have a strong team of traffic police to enforce law and order on the roads due to day-to-day increase in population, vehicles and in addition tourist visiting to Goa.

Thus, in view of frequency of accidents and tragedies let us all be alert, cautious, adhere and obey that traffic signs boards displayed in every nook and corner of roads, traffic signals by traffic police and be more disciplined driver or rider, whether young or old.

Further, it is also a request to Road Transport Authorities to increase the age limit from 18 to 20 years who those applying for learners licence and provide them with a printed booklet containing all signs, signals, rules and regulations with reasonable charges.

Also, we must, in consultation with the Education Department, make provisions to include driving as one the subject in schools, at least once or twice in a week so that the students can later become good and well-disciplined drivers or riders and to help reduce accidents and tragedies.
