Pedestrians forced to walk on road at own risk

Pedestrians forced to walk on road at own risk

When one travels on the village or city roads, there is no fixed set of road and carriage width; if speed breakers or rumblers are installed, then you have no standard of safe design.

The road advertisements are fixed at the whims and fancies of the advertisers throwing the necessary road safety and Indian Road Congress notified designs to the winds. At the same time, the PWD authorities turn Nelson’s eye and are responsible for all the mess.

The engineers should take cognisance of the latest hot-mixed road in Siolim between Marna and Gaunsavaddo which has a footpath and carriage road with a break in road marking. Today the carriage road is meant for the vehicles or two wheelers while the poor pedestrian has no safe zone to walk. It is important that the Engineers and the Collectors who issue orders for installation of speed breakers and advertising boards  follow the road safety standards.

Secondly, when marking the carriage way on any road, enough room should be left for the pedestrian to walk.  There has to be audit of such roads where the pedestrian is made to walk on the road at his own risk.
