Per-Seraulim residents build check-post in their locality

MARGAO:  In a bid to check the rise in crimes in the area, Per-Seraulim residents got together and built a check-post in their locality.

The check-post was commissioned by Police Inspector Filomeno Costa on Thursday, in the presence of Sarpanch Domnick Fernandes.

A non-resident Goan Saturnino Rodrigues, along with other villagers, including doctors, built the check-post at the cost of Rs 70,000.

The check post is fitted with CCTV cameras and the roof is made of a special foam that keeps it cool.

The police inspector assured the residents of Per-Seraulim that a police constable would be present every night at the check post.

“There have been movement of strange people in the area, particularly in the night and there have been some fatal accidents too and that is why we thought it prudent to give the police a structure where they sit and keep a watch properly,” said Saturnino.

Filomeno admitted that a patrolling unit was stationed there because of reports of many migrants moving around and advised people to ensure that the necessary forms regarding non-Goans staying in their premises be filled and submitted to the police.

“We have so far filled up around 3200 forms and about 2000 are still to be filled by migrants living within the jurisdiction of the Colva Police Station,” he said.

He said there are three types of forms that can be filled; servant forms for people working in the house, tenant form for those staying on rent and stranger form for an unknown person.
