Although the Transport Department adheres to the request of private bus operators in raising the bus fares from time to time, they often flout the rules and regulations framed by this competent authority.
During recent times we come across materials being transported by placing it at the backside of buses. Seen in the picture is a private bus that was recently found proceeding from Tisk in Ponda towards Margao. Plastic chairs were noticed hanging at the backside of this particular bus. Such a situation is rather undesirable and turns risky for the lives of fellow travellers and pedestrians proceeding along the road. In case the chairs happen to fall on any two-wheeler rider or pedestrian, they are likely to be injured in the process. The higher officials at the Road Transport Office should take a note of this important matter and see to it that private buses following above practices are dealt with a firm hand. Let us hope that this department would exercise strict vigil in this regard and initiate appropriate action against the defaulters without any discrimination. No doubt, private bus operators must maintain discipline on the road at all times.
