Road from Dando to police station in pathetic state!

SANGUEM: Sanguem locals led by youth activist and social worker Jervis Fernandes have submitted a memorandum to the Sanguem Deputy Collector highlighting the precarious condition of the main road from Dando junction to Sanguem Police Station.

The memorandum pointed out that the contractor could have well got the project work done much before the monsoon season. However, by undertaking the work in mid-April despite knowing fairly well of the fast approaching monsoon season, the contractor has put the life of the people in great danger.

“Almost, half the portion of the road was dug to replace the 200 mm dia drinking water supply pipeline with 400 mm dia pipeline. However, after having laid the pipeline, the contractor was allegedly seen taking his own sweet time in getting the road repaired resulting into present condition of the main road from Dando junction to Sanguem Police Station. The situation could have been well avoided if the contractor had got the work done in small stretches as against taking the total work project at one go,” claimed Fernandes.

“As the present road condition has left the road slippery and muddy, a couple of self-accidents involving two wheelers are already reported in the area and the situation will turn worse in the coming days,” charged Sanguem locals.

Incidentally, the memorandum claims that the project work have been rendered in the year 2016, yet the contractor seems to have only got the monsoon days to undertake the work of digging the road.

The locals have given the contractor a month’s time to repair the road failing which they have threatened to lead an agitation in Sanguem and also approach higher authorities for getting their grievances resolved.
