Rumblers at Dandeavaddo are useless from a safety point of view

Citizen Nelson Lopes Chinchinim

Grateful to MLA Cruz Silva for expeditiously attending to the need neglected over for the last 20 years. The existing rumblers at Dandeavaddo, are not respected by motorists and proved absolutely useless from a safety point of view.

The site and stretch have been a scene of numerous fatal accidents. The attempts to install signals did not materialise. The cameras would be undisputable proof and heavy new fines envisaged serve as a better deterrent.

The land acquisition was done 34 years ago but only residential buildings are demolished. The trees are a real nuisance but still stand tall.  Fortunately, two huge trees abutting the NH 66 were uprooted but miraculously did not cause loss of human life and in spite of warning the Electricity Department and PWD Highway Division by a registered mail.

Earlier attempts for speed breakers were stalled by vested interests.

Watched over half an hour at the site, most vehicles, including two wheelers zoom past speedily ignoring the rumblers. Only buses and container trucks slow down, when some cautious drivers slow down the vehicles behind are forced to slow down, but others overtake speedily.

If the traffic is not slowed for pedestrians to cross at the junction of three villages of Mingfoll, Dandeavaddo and Sarzora it serves no useful purpose.

It was suggested that since the junction is a blind spot, minimum acquired, besides recently notices are being issued. Hence, available place be utilised for widening and expansion.

Further, by encroachment and illegal boundary walls the access is curtailed. The immediate benefit is the rattling nuisance of sound to residents by speeding vehicles ignoring the rumblers. Well the rumblers at Sirlim on NH66, where the risks are much less serves a better purpose of slowing the vehicular traffic.

The festering problem continues to haunt the residents with a totally ineffective solution.
