SGPDA market garbage pit a death trap

Karsten Miranda

MARGAO: Two days after a rickshaw fell and was stuck in a garbage pit at the SGPDA retail market, another car fell in the same garbage pit recently. The driver of the privately owned car did not see the garbage pit in the rain due to the low visibility and the front tyres of the four-wheeler got stuck in the garbage pit.

These incidents come against the backdrop of calls from citizens and vendors of the market to ensure proper cleanliness of the market and not let the area outside the market's shed become a public garbage dumping ground.

In both the instances of the vehicles falling and getting stuck in the pit, the area was filled with garbage, which made the process of retrieving the vehicles all the more difficult, especially with the incessant rains.
