Speed breakers need of the hour at Porvorim

Speed breakers need of the hour at Porvorim

Citizen Gregory D’Souza Siolim

What are the authorities doing along this national highway from O’Coquiero upto Teacher’s Training College, Porvorim? There are almost 10 Zebra Crossings for pedestrians and sadly there are no signboards erected to caution, you cross at your own risk.

Recently, Siolim lost a young dynamic youth Ms Noella at the JMJ Zebra Crossing. This is how our drivers with licences drive on Goan roads. No wonder, we have the highest road accidents due to driver negligence with poor road planning for the pedestrians or cyclists. Our authorities expect that all Indians buy and drive two or four wheelers if you want to be safe on Goan roads.

I suggest that the Tiger, which is our national animal, the authorities paint the road with fluorescent orange and black and rename the crossing as Tiger Crossing, at least every nationalist Indian will respect and allow the pedestrian to cross the road safely. The Zebra is an African animal, let’s leave the colonial legacy and name it as Tiger Crossing in India for our pedestrians.
